MCU-3221 INA3221 is a sensor module built around the Texas Instruments INA3221 chip. It’s designed to monitor voltage and current for up to three separate channels simultaneously, making it a valuable tool for power management and monitoring applications in various electronics projects.
Description
This module acts as a high-side current and bus voltage monitor. It works by measuring the tiny voltage drop across an integrated shunt resistor for each channel. This shunt voltage drop is directly proportional to the current flowing through that channel. Simultaneously, the module measures the bus voltage (the voltage on the power rail it’s monitoring). The data for all three channels—shunt voltage, bus voltage, and calculated current—is then transmitted to a microcontroller (like an Arduino or Raspberry Pi) using a standard I²C interface.
The module is particularly useful for applications like:
* Battery-powered systems where you need to track the power consumption of different components.
* Solar power systems to monitor the performance of solar cells, batteries, and the load.
* General electronics projects where precise power monitoring is crucial.
Key Specifications
* Chipset: Texas Instruments INA3221
* Channels: 3-channel, high-side current and bus voltage monitor.
* Operating Voltage: 2.7V to 5.5V (The module itself is powered by this, separate from the monitored channels).
* Input Voltage Range (per channel): 0V to 26V.
* Interface: I²C and SMBUS-compatible.
* Shunt Voltage Range: The chip can measure shunt voltage drops of up to ±163.84mV.
* Accuracy: Features high accuracy with a maximum gain error of 0.25% and an offset voltage of ±80 µV.
* Alerts: Supports programmable alert and warning outputs to signal over-current or other out-of-range conditions for each channel.
* I²C Addresses: The module typically has solder pads to allow you to configure up to four different I²C addresses, enabling multiple modules on the same I²C bus.
