The 680VAC MOV (Metal Oxide Varistor) is a voltage-dependent protective component designed to help protect electrical and electronic circuits against voltage surges and transient overvoltage conditions. Under normal operating voltage, the MOV presents a high resistance. When a voltage surge occurs, its resistance decreases rapidly, allowing it to divert excessive transient energy away from sensitive components.
It is commonly used across power lines and at the input of electrical equipment to help reduce the effects of switching surges, electrical transients, and other short-duration overvoltage events.
